AC Transit is the primary surface transit provider in the San Francisco East Bay, serving approximately 54 million trips each year. The District encompasses 364 square-miles from Richmond to Fremont, and includes Oakland, Berkeley, and Emeryville, as well as service to San Francisco and the South Bay Peninsula.
The Service Development Department is responsible for service design, scheduling, short and long-range planning, and delivery of several capital projects. In 2014, the Service Development Department will be working on a number of exciting projects, including a $10.5 million capital project to improve Line 51 in Oakland, Berkeley, and Alameda; developing specific service area plans for Northern Alameda and West Contra Costa counties; writing new policy and design guidelines for multimodal transit facilities; and updating the District’s Strategic Vision for corridor investment.
AC Transit is currently accepting applications for a Transportation Planner Intern from well-qualified graduate students enrolled in Transportation Planning, Urban Planning, Public Administration, or related program. The Transportation Planner Intern will gain valuable hands-on planning experience under general supervision of a Senior Transportation Planner. The successful candidate will perform tasks and assist in project delivery and project management for the projects listed above, as well as other assignments, as needed.
Interns should be available to work 16-24 hours per week, during regular business hours (8am-5pm), for a period of 6-12 months. Interns may be permitted to work up to 40 hours per week during summer semester.
