Urban Green Council, the New York Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council, is seeking a talented and committed Research Fellow to direct and implement a key research project.
To advance sustainability in urban buildings and serve as a model for other cities, Urban Green Council conducts several research projects each year, ranging from citywide analyses to micro-reports on select building issues. Recent projects include 90 by 50, a report on reducing NYC greenhouse gas emissions 90% by 2050, and Baby It's Cold Inside, a study of temperatures inside buildings if a power failure occurs during severe weather. Our work is widely covered in mainstream and industry press, impacting industry practices and trends.
In order to expand these research capabilities, United Technologies Corporation has generously funded a full-time Summer 2014 Research Fellow at Urban Green. This Fellow will undertake a cutting-edge research project with a direct application to construction codes and practices. It will focus on one of two potential areas:
(1) air sealing in residential buildings, in support of upcoming code mandates for increased airtightness and blower door testing.
(2) using New York City benchmarking data to validate statistical correlations between certain building characteristics and building energy performance, and performing an in-depth analysis of actual buildings to assist the city in making more effective use of benchmarking
Working directly with the Research and Advocacy Departments, the project offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on green building in New York City and beyond. Depending on the project, the Fellow may perform literature reviews, conduct interviews, develop data and cost models, perform statistical analysis, and recommend new codes and trainings. The Fellow will produce a report detailing findings and next steps, and present them to the Urban Green Council Board and United Technologies.
Applications are due April 15, 2014. A stipend ($12,500 over three months) and housing costs (up to $7,500) are provided. Health care and fringe benefits are not offered with this position. Exact Fellowship dates may be flexible upon the selected applicant’s availability.
The application should include:
Please email one PDF document by April 15 including the items above to email@example.com with “2014 Summer Research Fellow – [your name]” in the subject line.
